Understanding Visa Cancellation Regulations

Understanding Visa Cancellation Regulations

As an international student in Thailand, it is important to understand the regulations surrounding visa cancellation. When you graduate, resign, or terminate your studies, you are required to officially cancel your visa before leaving Thailand. Failure to do so can result in overstaying and fines.

Visa Cancellation Regulations

According to the regulations set by the Immigration Bureau, students must cancel their visa after graduation, resignation, or termination from their school before leaving Thailand. It is essential to follow this process; otherwise, you may end up on an overstay, regardless of the expiration date of your stay permit extension.

If you overstay, you will be charged a minimum of 500 Baht per day, starting from your graduation, resignation, or termination date stated on your transcript. This penalty goes up to a maximum of 20,000 Baht for overstays of 40 days or longer.

Leaving without Canceling Visa

You may be wondering if you can leave Thailand without canceling your visa. Technically, it is possible, but it may lead to problems if you plan to study or work in Thailand again in the future. You may also face fines and penalties for overstaying your visa when you return to Thailand.

Process of Canceling Visa

To cancel your visa, you will need a Cancellation Letter from New Stamford School. This letter can be easily requested by contacting the New Stamford Support Team through Line Official, WhatsApp, or email at study@newstamford.com.

It is important to provide us with your preferred date, which should match your departure flight date to avoid overstaying.

The process is simple and convenient, as the letter will be issued within one business day, and there is no additional fee charge. You will need an original cancellation letter, which can be collected from the school. Alternatively, if you need the letter to be sent by mail or grab, you will be responsible for the postage or transportation fee.

Required Documents

To cancel your visa, you must provide several documents, including:

  1. a visa cancellation letter from your school
  2. an original passport
  3. a copy of the passport page containing your personal information,
  4. a copy of the page with your valid non-immigrant visa and entry stamp.

When can I cancel my visa?

It is essential to know when you can start the visa cancellation process before leaving Thailand. The earliest you can cancel your visa is 21 days before your intended departure date. For instance, if you plan to leave Thailand on 21 April 2023, the earliest you can visit Chiang Mai Immigration for the visa cancellation process is on 1 April 2023.

Can I Cancel My Visa at the Airport or Other Immigration?

One of the most frequently asked questions is whether you can cancel your visa at the airport or other immigration checkpoints. The answer is no; you cannot cancel your visa at the airport or any other immigration checkpoint.

To cancel your visa, you will need to visit the Chiang Mai immigration office in person. It’s important to note that you should go to the immigration office near the airport and not the one in Central Festival.

In conclusion, it’s crucial to follow the regulations and officially cancel your visa when you graduate, resign, or terminate your studies in Thailand. Failure to do so may lead to overstaying and penalties. Make sure to gather all the required documents and contact the school for a visa cancellation letter before heading to the immigration office.

By doing so, you can ensure that your departure from Thailand goes smoothly and that you avoid any future visa issues.
