Thailand's Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa

Thai LTR Visa

Thailand has long been a popular destination for expatriates seeking to relocate to a country with a warm climate, vibrant culture, and affordable cost of living. In an effort to attract more high-potential foreigners to the country, the Thai government has recently introduced the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa. This 10-year visa is designed to encourage wealthy global citizens, retirees, remote workers, and highly skilled professionals to make Thailand their long-term home.

The LTR Visa: Your Key to Living and Working in Thailand for a Decade

What is LTR Visa Thailand?

The LTR Visa is a 10-year visa that allows holders to live and work in Thailand for an extended period. The visa is divided into two five-year terms, with the initial stay granted for five years and the option to extend for an additional five years. LTR Visa holders are required to report their residence status to their local Immigration office annually if they reside in Thailand for 365 consecutive days.

Long-Term Stay

The LTR Visa grants holders permission to stay in Thailand for up to 10 years. The initial visa is valid for five years and can be renewed for an additional five years, provided the qualifications are still met.

Exemption from Foreign Employee Quota

LTR Visa holders are exempt from the requirement that companies must hire four Thai employees for every one foreign employee.

Fast-Track Service at International Airports

Holders of the LTR Visa can enjoy expedited immigration processing at Thai international airports.

Extended Reporting Requirements

Instead of the standard 90-day reporting, LTR Visa holders only need to report to the Immigration office once a year. They are also exempt from the re-entry permit requirement.

Multiple Re-Entry Permit

The LTR Visa includes a multiple re-entry permit, allowing holders to travel in and out of Thailand without the need to apply for a new visa.

Permission to Work in Thailand

LTR Visa holders are granted a digital work permit, enabling them to legally work in the country.

Reduced Personal Income Tax

Highly-skilled professionals holding an LTR Visa benefit from a reduced personal income tax rate of 17%.

Tax Exemption for Overseas Income

LTR Visa holders may be eligible for tax exemptions on their income earned outside of Thailand.

Application Process Overview

Thailand LTR Visa

Applying for an LTR Visa in Thailand involves several steps, from submitting your application to receiving your visa and work permit. At New Stamford and Siam Legal, we are here to guide you through the entire process, ensuring a smooth and successful application.

01
Step 1: Initial Consultation and Document Preparation
During our initial consultation, we will review your documents to determine your eligibility and the most suitable LTR Visa category for your situation. Once we have established your eligibility, we will assist you in gathering and pre-screening all the necessary documents before submitting your application.
02
Step 2: Application Submission and Qualifications Endorsement
We will submit your online application for qualifications endorsement, along with the required supporting documents. The relevant government agencies, such as Immigration, Thailand's Board of Investment, and the Department of Consular Affairs, will review your application. You will be notified of the qualifications endorsement result within 20 working days, although additional documents may be requested, which could extend the processing time.
03
Step 3: Visa Issuance
Upon approval of your application, you will be notified to submit additional information and documents for the pre-approval process, which generally takes 1-3 working days. Once the pre-approval request is approved, you will receive a qualifications endorsement letter, allowing you to make an appointment for LTR Visa issuance at the Royal Thai Embassies/Consulates overseas or the One Stop Service for Visa and Work Permit Centre in Bangkok. This appointment must be made within 60 days from the issuance date of the letter. The processing fee for the 10-year multiple-entry visa is 50,000 Baht per person if collecting the visa in Thailand. Fees may vary and be more expensive if collecting the visa at Royal Thai Embassies/Consulates overseas or through an E-visa.
04
Step 4: Work Permit Issuance
If you plan to work for an entity in Thailand, you must apply for a work permit immediately after receiving your LTR Visa or before starting your employment. The work permit application is submitted through the LTR Visa application system and typically takes 3-5 working days to process. Once your work permit request is approved, you can make an appointment to collect your work permit at the Department of Employment at the One Stop Service Centre for Visa and Work Permit in Bangkok. The processing fee for maintaining your work permit is 3,000 Baht per year. Please note that work permits are not granted to Work-From-Thailand Professionals, as this LTR Visa category is intended for those working remotely for foreign employers while living in Thailand.

At New Stamford School and Siam Legal, we understand the importance of a successful LTR Visa application. Our experienced team will be with you every step of the way, from the initial consultation to the collection of your visa and work permit.
